Some clients may wonder what is sandwashed silk fabric? Then, we have to talk more about sand washing. It is an abrasive process during which some environmental friendly chemical additive is used. The purpose of sandwashing is destroy the original texture structure of natural silk fabric. Although pure silk fabric is one of the most comfortable fiber to wear, some people are not fond of the glossy finish and crisp hand feel. So, sandwashing process is applied to take away the extra sheen of silk fabrics such as pure silk satin fabric. Sandwashed silk fabric is incredibly soft and has a matte surface and almost suede-like in handfeel. Looking from a far-viewed angle, there is layer of tiny white threads on sandwashed silk fabric, giving quite a vintage look to any finished apparel.
Pattern suggestions
Since sandwashed silk fabric is matte, it may not be an excellent choice for formal occasion needs glory or sheen. We don’t recommend this type of fabric for wedding dresses, evening dresses or prom dresses. But, it definitely matches well with all of garments in casual look, such as sleepwear, blouse and daily dresses.
