What is velvet fabric? What are its characteristics? Velvet has always been a popular fabric for traditional autumn clothes. Its luxurious temperament and rich texture create a magical fashion atmosphere. The velvet fabric is of heavier quality and is paired with contrasting delicate fabrics, such as silk and lace, for an extraordinary appeal. Let's take a look at the specific introduction.

1. What is velvet fabric

Velvet, also known as Zhang velvet, originated in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, China. It has been mass-produced in the Ming Dynasty and is one of the traditional Chinese fabrics. There are two types of floral velvet and plain velvet. Flower velvet is to cut part of the loops into fluff according to the pattern, and the fluff and loops are alternated to form a pattern. The surface of the plain velvet is all loops. The fluff or loops of velvet stand tightly and have the characteristics of luster, wear resistance and non-fading, and can be used for fabrics such as clothing and bedding.

The velvet fabric uses cocoon grade A raw silk, and also uses silk as the warp, cotton yarn as the weft, and uses silk or rayon to raise the loop. Both warp and weft are first degummed or semi-degummed, dyed, twisted and then woven. According to different uses, different raw materials can be used for weaving. In addition to the silk and rayon mentioned above, it can also be woven from different raw materials such as cotton, eyeliner, viscose silk, polyester and nylon. So the velvet fabric is not really woven with velvet, but its hand and texture are as smooth and shiny as velvet.

Second, the characteristics of velvet fabric

The following introduces the velvet fabric from the velvet structure and fabric characteristics.

1. Organizational composition

Velvet is the name of a silk fabric in which velvet warps form loops or piles on the surface of the fabric, also known as Zhang velvet, which was mass-produced in the Ming Dynasty. It has two categories: flowers and vegetarians. Floral velvet is to divide some loops into fluff according to the pattern to form a pattern, while the surface of plain velvet is all loops.

2. Fabric characteristics

In velvet fabrics, the piles or loops stand closely together, with elegant shades and strong wear resistance, making them a good material for clothing, hats and accessories. Velvet has two types: flowers and plains, and the source forms among them are different. Velvet is rarely textured, single- or double-colored, or inlaid with gold and silver threads.
