From the Spring and Autumn Period to the Southern and Northern Dynasties, Huzhou Silk has been exported to more than ten countries. In the Tang Dynasty, Huzhou Silk entered its heyday and was listed as a court tribute. The real starting point of the Tang Dynasty Silk Road was in Huzhou. Nowadays, Huzhou still retains place names such as Camel Bridge because silk sold in the Western Regions were all shipped with camels, but there are no such names in nearby cities, such as Suzhou and Hangzhou.

In the Song and Yuan Dynasties, grafting of mulberry trees was very popular in Huzhou, Zhejiang. The mulberry leaves were fat and became the best mulberry varieties. Using grafting technology to reproduce mulberry trees can preserve the excellent mulberry traits. This advanced mulberry technology also made the output and quality of silk cocoons in Jiangnan greatly improved.

In 1292 AD, the Italian traveler Marco Polo went to Huzhou and wrote in his travels, the people here are gentle and wear in silk cloth. The industry and commerce are thriving." It can be seen that Huzhou silk has developed to a very high level. At the time, there was a saying "Shu mulberry, Mu silkworm, Wu silkworm". Wu silkworm refers to Huzhou silk (Huzhou is also known as Wu Xing). Suzhou and Chengdu were famous for Su Jin and Shu Jin.
